Liposuction in Los Angeles, CA – Lipoplasty, Liposculpture
Why Should I Choose Dr. Fodor for Liposuction?
Many patients travel to Los Angeles to take advantage of Dr. Fodor’s expertise in liposuction. He has written extensively on the topic in addition to having developed or helped to develop many of the innovative techniques that are widely used today.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction (also known as lipoplasty, suction-assisted lipectomy, lipolysis or simply “fat suctioning”) is the most common cosmetic procedure performed today not only in the United States, but worldwide. The main advantage of liposuction over other procedures is that the incisions, which are often no more than 1/4 inch in length, can be strategically placed, leaving very minimal, if any, scarring. The natural elasticity of the dermis (skin) allows it to contract once the fat is “vacuumed out.” The younger the patient is the more elastic the skin. However, Dr. Fodor has performed the liposuction procedure successfully on selected individuals up to 75 years of age.
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is extensively used by itself for body sculpting as well as part of surgical procedures which include skin removal, such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck, upper arm lift, and inner thigh lift). In Dr. Fodor’s practice suction is also part of breast reduction by itself or in combination with other techniques, and for removal of unwanted fat from the neck in the course of a neck and Face Lift.
Liposuction is NOT a treatment for generalized obesity, and it does not replace diet and/or exercise. However, it does contour stubborn, “out-of-proportion” body areas (“figure faults”), which do not respond well to traditional weight loss modalities.
All patients for liposuction must be carefully screened to assess their candidacy from a physical and emotional standpoint.
What Can I Expect After Liposuction?
Initial recovery after liposuction takes approximately two to four days, with some bruising and swelling which could last another few days. Many of Dr. Fodor’s patients show a significant improvement in the first three to five days. The last 10%-15% of improvement however may not be evident until up to six months.
What Should I Know About Liposuction?
There are numerous “cutting edge” minimally invasive and some even non invasive (non surgical) body sculpting methods touted in the media using alternate energy sources such as laser, cryo (cold), thermal, radiofrequency, etc., for body sculpting purposes. By far, most of these are industry driven, placing marketing and commerce way ahead of scientific proof of their validity. The existence of a multitude of approaches (more than 10 laser assisted technologies) all with convincing marketing, has created a tremendous amount of confusion among potential patients. Many patients have submitted themselves to these treatments with unsatisfactory results, if not unwanted side effects and complications.
Dr. Fodor has seen many such patients in his practice. Being open minded to progress and to best serve his patients, Dr. Fodor carefully evaluates these techniques on an ongoing basis and has personal experience with all the ones that appear to present some promise. In his role as a Clinical Investigator of these modalities and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for LipoSonix, he has had personal experience with them and is called upon to lecture about them. Any and all of these technologies need to be compared to the gold standard; the results that can be obtained in the hands of Dr. Fodor with traditional lipoplasty along with PAL and VASER as needed for each individual patient. Dr. Fodor feels that in the foreseeable future it is highly unlikely that any of these new approaches will replace the current techniques in their ability to produce outstanding results.
